Events with Fireworks

Independence Day Fireworks

Have you ever driven down the highway at nightfall on July Fourth? On this evening, nearly every community from small towns to sprawling cities is a host to firework festivities. Simple backyard celebrations serve as a backdrop to huge explosions from organized events. In the US, the event most connected with fireworks is certainly Independence Day. However, fireworks are also used to light up many other celebrations.

Fireworks and World Events

Fireworks are used throughout the world in a variety of combinations to celebrate an even wider variety of occasions. We use fireworks to celebrate our military members for their service as well as for scaring evil spirits in some religious practices. Other major fireworks event dates are Cinco De Mayo (May 5th), Guy Fawkes Day (November 5th), and Diwali (which is a varying date from the third week in October through the first week in November). Our flagship store in Tampa, as well as our Ft. Myers store, is open at these times to fulfill your fireworks needs.

How to Plan a Great Fireworks Show

Step1: Begin by planning your firing order.
lan to shoot your smallest items first. Then move on to ground level fountains, spinners, crackers and wheels. Build your show literally from the ground up. Start adding some small rockets, roman candles and winged items. Then build up to larger items like multi-shot cakes, reloadable shells and large stick rockets. Use fillers in between, such as 500-gram fountains that project showers of sparks and "fill" the sky. To work up to your finale use your large multi-shot cakes and graduate into the 500-gram multi-shot cakes. The 3" finale racks are the best to use. Depending on your budget, shoot as many of these as possible at one time during finale.

Step 2: Inspect all of your fireworks and equipment.

Look for any damaged or leaking items. Read and follow the instructions for every firework item. This is required for both the safety of the person shooting the show and your audience. This is also important for the performance of the fireworks. For instance, some items like fan shaped cakes and aerials will have instructions on what side should face the audience. This pre-planning will ensure safety as well as optimum effect during your presentation.

Step 3: Line up your fireworks prior to sundown.
Remove any cello packaging, locate fuses and remove fuse covers prior to shooting. NEVER remove fuse covers until you are ready to begin your show. Most rockets will have a plastic cover over the fuse at the base of the rocket load that needs to be removed. Unwind the fuse on all the reloadable shells in advance, as this will make them easier to handle in the dark. Place them back in the box and keep them at a safe distance from the shoot site. Keep the box covered at all times when shooting aerial fireworks. Make sure your shoot area is flat and solid. If you are shooting from grass it is recommended to place a 4' x 8' piece of plywood over the grass area. This will ensure your shoot surface is flat and solid.

Shoot your show to music if possible.

Keep a good pace with two shooters and one prep person (loader).

The darker the background to your display, the more spectacular it will look.

Be ready to light the next item when the previous one finishes.

Avoid long delays. Mortars and single-shot aerial shells should be included at random in combination with multi-shot aerials.

Save your biggest or best single item for after the finale and light it while your guests are cheering.
Pacing, creative planning, product selection and safety will ensure a great show.
